Romantic chemistry or casual funny jokes are my biggest weakness aaargh. How do I make characters sound natural? Why can’t every conversation be a deep philosophical deep dive into the mentality of the characters and their dynamics and their stakes in the plot?

one of the biggest elephants in the Disventure Camp fandom is that one of the villains (Yul) is just one massive racist stereotype against north koreans and east asians, i'm being deadass when i say he checks all the boxes for racist caricature both in his design and character. everytime it's brought up people say "it's not that big of a deal". And even when the creator was made aware of this issue he said some shit like "umm actually a korean person said it's fine so we're good" and like no?? you have a bunch of korean fans saying it's not okay?? not to mention they made a mexican character (Rosa María) a teenage mother who steals and the indian one (Riya) obssesed with money. The series has a gigantic problem with racist caricature and only a few people actually care enough to point it out

i remember when i was in the tf2 fandom actively people would come up with crazy ship names, like red oktoberfest for heavy x medic, boots and bombs for demo x soldier, etc. one of my favorites is ‘speeding bullet’ (sniper x scout), cus not only is it a trait representative of them both but also the theme used in the meet the scout short is called ‘faster than a speeding bullet’ so it becomes this neat little triple definition ship name

Nobody ever points out that fan favorite Scorpia is guilty of inappropriate (at best) behavior directed at an emotionally abused teenage girl, bordering on sexual harassment. The fact it's hilarious probably shouldn't justify it to the characters.

Mine would absolutely be starting out with writing exclusively one-shot fanfics and stories, so when I have to write a long story the plot goes COMPLETELY off the rails and it ends up not making sense. I love writing character development, as well as my pride and joy- *romance* - and I’m completely lost when it comes to implementing those character moments in my story without it losing its meaning.

Not only do I have a competence kink when it comes to characters, I love and adore the ones that are written (or I can write as) the quiet type who's actions are interpreted in a negative light that don't not know for the life of them how to advocate for themselves while they quietly hurt when their feelings are all trampled over because people think they're an asshole while deep down they meant well and would really like a hug now, please and thank you.

Its actually amazing how a fandom can hold more of a grudge on one line from the first chapter of an over 400 chapter series than the protagonist who was told to jump off a building. Like... No? Im not gonna hold it against the middle schooler. Middle schoolers are objectively the worst age of human being, and its alot more fun to actually... Keep up with the character developments? I dunno man, im really tired of purpetually hearing people whine about the same one line from chatoter one over and over. Edit: typo

I dunno, I watched SK8 and it was amazing, but Adam was like… clearly the *villian*, so I feel like he’s supposed to be hateable? I don’t think anyone had an objection to him being over the top and camp so much as him having created a death sport and I think canonically killed people (my memory on that is a bit fuzzy). I know he has issues and trauma which made for interesting backstory and an explanation of his insanity, but I also seem to recall him getting a waaaay better ending than he deserved. I think the disconnect between the OPs reaction and the fandom is down to two things: 1. SK8 is I think more a shonen than shojo show, or at least more likely to attract fans of shonen, and that probably has something to do with the differences in views on camp villains. 2. And also the fact that I feel like audiences today are less tolerant of creepy behavior from male characters generally… which is probably a good thing but also something that doesn’t always translate well from Japan to the US as the US audience are the ones more concerned with that sort of thing than the Japanese. I see it as a positive thing, especially since real male-male assault are so often ignored by people. Incidentally this is why I have trouble with “Sign of Affection”: the whole “oh he grew up abroad, and you know those foreigners: so touchy!” is a premise that *really* banks on you being a Japanese person with only a vague understanding of foreign cultures (specifically I think European ones?) in order to be believable vs a bit uncomfortable. Not to dis the cuteness of communicating through touch… but I personally have trouble unseeing it.

3:56 I've never been a huge Dragon Ball guy and I haven't watched much of it, but I've heard a ton about how Goku's character was changed in the anime to be more "badass" when compared to the manga. For instance, when kills Frieza in the anime he's clearly angry, but when he does so in the manga he looks visibly uncomfortable and seemingly remorseful. This is just what I've heard, though, so maybe I'm wrong. Any Dragonball fans want to add on to anything? Or perhaps correct me on some things?
